It’s Festivus Day! This silly holiday falls on December 23rd, and was made famous by a Seinfeld episode back in the day. It was described as “a Festivus for the rest of us” and was earmarked for non-commercial, non-Christmas fun. Festivus includes a traditional “Airing of the Grievances” where participants can vent about irritations and disappointments from the past year. So with that in mind… let the ritual begin, quilter style!
- Too little fabric
- Too little time
- Empty bobbins
- “Un-sewing”
- Batting that’s an inch too small
- Dull rotary cutter blades
- Broken needles
Phew! Okay, that was enough for me.
There are probably a lot of other things that I could complain about as a quilter, but the truth is that no matter what annoyances come with quilting, I am dedicated to this art and cannot be deterred. I prefer to think that these inconveniences just make the process sweeter because while it is frustrating to run out of bobbin just inches from the end of a seam, the joyful finishes make it all worthwhile.
And should a Festivus miracle appear, I’ll cross my fingers that it’s an evening of perfect piecing with a full bobbin!
How about you?
Happy Festivus!
